  • Officially kicked off 2010 ATP World Tour season with Nadal by hitting balls on a magic carpet in Doha, where he reached SFs (l. to Davydenko)
  • At the Australian Open, his 41st straight Grand Slam tournament, he became the fifth man (after Crawford, Rosewall, Emerson, Agassi) in the major's history to win four titles and first since Agassi in 2003
  • Began his campaign against Andreev winning 46 62 76(2) 60
  • It marked the first time he has lost a set in a Grand Slam first round in over 6 years (2003 US Open)
  • In his 2nd RD match win over Hanescu during night session on 21 January, HRH Prince William of Wales watched from front row of VIP Box from 30 up in the third set

  • On 18 October, rose to World No. 2
  • A week later in Stockholm, Sweden, Federer won the 64th tour-level title of his career with a 64 63 victory over German Florian Mayer
  • The title tied Federer with American Pete Sampras for fourth place on the Open Era overall titles list
  • “It means the world to me to win this title. It’s always nice winning in a place like this with a tennis heritage and a lot of history,” said Federer
  • It was the 18th different country in which Federer has won an ATP World Tour title
  • On 7 November, he won a record fourth Basel title avenging his 2009 final defeat to Djokovic 64 36 61
  • Moved into fourth place on the Open Era singles titles list with 65 titles – one more than Sampras

  • Federer finished the season by winning the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals for the fifth time
  • He won all five matches, finishing with a 63 36 61 victory over World No. 1 Rafael Nadal
  • He was the third player in the tournament’s 41-year history to win the title five times, joining Ivan Lendl and Pete Sampras
  • “Even though I lost the second set, I'm really happy the way I stayed positive throughout the match today. I thought it was clearly a very high level. I don't know if I could have played any better, so I'm really pleased.” He closed 2010 with a 65-13 match record and will finish in the Top 2 of the South African Airways ATP Rankings for a record eighth-straight year
