Montreal TMS Second Round
By Tennis Masters Canada Official Site
An interview with: ROGER FEDERER
R. FEDERER/G. Rusedski 6-4, 6-3
Tour Official: Okay. Please open up for questions for Roger.
Reporter: Roger, was that a confidence building sort of match that you wanted to have?
Roger
Federer: Yeah, I mean definitely it was a different match.
So, you know, I didn't know really his game was really. Even
though he's been around now for a few months. I'm happy I handled
the serve so well today. I was surprised, really.
Reporter: Pleasantly surprised?
Roger
Federer: I was, yeah, because he is meant to be a big server and
usually gets a lot of, you know, easy games, but that's not what
happened, so.
Reporter:
You started very well and you finished very well. Just a little
patch in the middle didn't go very well when he broke back.
Roger
Federer: I still didn't feel well on my serve. Somehow I
haven't gotten the rhythm yet. Missing a lot at the tape.
Just missing by a little bit. Little bit missing on the serve
still. I feel that. And you know, when he broke me, just
put some pressure on, I missed three passing shots. Can happen
but shouldn't happen. So ... I have to improve my concentration
level, I guess, throughout the whole match, especially against a big
server like this, it's not good to happen. But I got out of it
quite easily today.
Reporter:
Is it really important to, in the summer, because it hasn't been your
best time, to do some good results now? Especially, say, from now
to the Open?
Roger
Federer: Yeah, well, I'm really happy it's going so well here in
Montreal. It would have been tough to lose here early, like I
almost did and then go to Cincinnati and, you know, try to win some
matches before the Open. So like this now, I already have three
matches and I'm sure I'm going to play better tomorrow. So I'm
really looking forward now for this week. And now I'm in the
tournament and I've got the rhythm, so I'll play better.
