Australian Open Third Round
By Tennis-X.com Forum
R. FEDERER/M. Mirnyi 6-3, 6-4, 6-3
Jim Courier's Post-Match Interview
Jim Courier: Well Roger I want you first of all assess your form. Tell me from
your perspective, because I have an opinion, how do you think you
played?
Roger Federer: I'm happy (laughs)
JC: Does it have to be that simple? Can you give me more than one word?
RF: I haven't lost a set, I'm through to the fourth round once
again and uh I'm feeling good, no injuries. I'm a happy person. On top
of that, I'm playing good tennis so it's all good.
JC: Okay. So we get it. You're a good tennis player. That's good
and well. What I'm interested in is what you're not good at. Can you
cook? Can you-
RF: I cannot cook
JC: Do you make your bed?
RF: Usually not in hotels, no.
JC: Good thinking, what about do you write thank you letters? What is it that you don't do well?
RF: You don't have to ask me.
JC: I can't get Mirka down here. She's not coming on the court yet.
RF: Thank God, thank God. You cannot. Not it's uh- nobody's
perfect. Also I have my problems. I'm always late, I struggle to get
out of bed, I cannot cook. Many, many things, little things like that.
JC: I think that makes us all feel a little bit better having
witnessed that beautiful display tonight. Alright so next up is Tommy
Haas. You've played Tommy earlier this year. You've had some battles.
What are your looking for in that match?
RF: Really looking forward to that match. First of all I'm very
happy that he's back after injury. I think that's always a great thing.
He's been injured a long time and I actually played him before he
really got injured
back in 2002 in Parisbas and I'm really happy that he's coming
back strong. I've had a heartbreaker here 9-7 in the fifth when I had a
match point. That was also in the fourth round. That was beginning of
2002. So um I'd like to get him back, so it's good that we're playing
each other.
JC: Last question, there's another Swiss player who's making some waves. What are your thoughts on Martina Hingis' comeback?
RF: Yes, fantastic. I'm extremely happy she's back. I'm trying to
keep my unforced errors down as she's back, she always puts the
pressure on me. I remember that a couple of years ago I couldn't keep
the ball in play, I was always under pressure. Media asked why I'm
making errors. I'm really happy she's back and hope she can go a long
way. Me as a Swiss you know I'm really excited.
JC: Take solace. Only 10 unforced errors for you tonight. Pretty
comprehensive victory. Nice job. You're into the fourth round, we're
not surprised. Roger Federer- ladies and gentlemen.
