Miami AMS Fourth Round

By ASAP Sports

R. FEDERER/D. Tursunov 6‑3, 6‑3

An interview with: ROGER FEDERER

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. I suppose with Dmitry, sometimes they go in, sometimes they don't. Is it difficult playing a guy like that?

ROGER FEDERER: I think especially mentally, you know, going into the match. Because you know he's going to do that. Obviously, you know, you sort of get surprised that he keeps the ball in the court. You think you gonna not really have much to play with, but actually I think, you know, he's, as far as I'm concerned, really learned to keep the ball in play and know when to go for his shots and so on.

I mean, he's got a good serve, and I think I did well getting it back many times and creating opportunities.

So it was tough, tough match, like expected in the conditions. I knew I was gonna play in a time when the sun was gonna go down. Wind wasn't too bad. I thought I did really well today.

Q. You kind of gave him that break back early where you double‑faulted. What was going through your head? You came back right.

ROGER FEDERER: Well, it obviously was a bad game, served two double‑faults. Hardly ever happens for me. But I didn't feel too comfortable on the serves. I missed them by quite, you know, a bit.

So something was wrong with that game, I guess. I gave it to him. But, obviously, then after that it's important not to be affected by it. That was what was good about it.

But obviously I was disappointed with such a game because I think, especially against him, you don't want to give him games like this. All it takes maybe is one game where he really, really plays a good game. But on that one he didn't even have to play a good game.

You just have to make sure it doesn't happen very often. Thank God it doesn't, so, which is good.

Q. James plays tonight. Could be a difficult match. But if you get to play him again, did he show enough against you in the first set at Indian Wells to suggest he could really challenge you at that stage of a tournament?

ROGER FEDERER: Oh, yeah, absolutely. I think breaking me two times in a row, it's not the easiest thing to do. He did that, and that definitely shows me that he is a very dangerous player. He's not for nothing in the top 10 and play the finals in Indian Wells. If it would be against him, I definitely have to play a good match to come through once again.

Q. This is a little off topic. What do you think of the idea of making a Masters tournament on grass in the future? Would that be a good idea?

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I think it would be a good idea because we only have one Grand Slam on grass and a couple of other events which are prestigious and big. But I think a Masters Series on grass would make sense, yeah.
